Coach Carousal Part 10-01: The Turk Calls on the Big East

ESPN is reporting that DePaul head coach Jerry Wainwright will be replaced shortly. DePaul AD Jean Lenti Ponsetto has scheduled a press conference for 11 am CST Monday January 11 to announce the change and provide details of the transition and plan as the program moves forward.

Wainwright has coached 3 teams over 16 seasons in Division I basketball. DePaul hired him away from Richmond University in 2005 to replace Dave Leitao who had taken the head coaching job at Virginia. Wainwright's D I record is 245-225. His record at DePaul 59-80. Wainwright has taken four of his team to the NCAAs, and another three to the NITs.

If confirmed at the press conference, Coach Wainwright would be the third coach replaced this season. Dereck Whittenburg was dismissed by Fordham and Glen Miller from Penn before those teams started conference play.

Update -- Wainwright's release was confirmed in a statement released by AD Jean Lenti Pensetto midday on Monday. Assistant Coach Tracy Webster was appointed interem coach through the end of the season.
